( i wrote this obviously back in december 2016 but unfortunately i haven’t posted this one yet up until now so i hope you guys enjoy this!)
Christmas might be different on generations to generations but the spiritual and center core purpose of why must celebrate this event remains and marked forever. yes friend, #MAYFOREVER!
A few more weeks and its Christmas again! I could smell and feel the cold breeze, the lights from house to house is dazzling and exquisite, and the children’s caroling I could hear them through the window. Truly the excitement for this event is unnerving and inviting. I should say that this is my favorite event of the year, not just for me but for the entire citizen of the state is looking forward for this.
Ninang and Ninong are you prepared for giving gifts for you inaanak? Are the Christmas tree and dancing lights décor all set? Must check the budget for a super huge pakaain and handaan naman for another happy and memorable family event!
For typical Filipino Christmas, it is a time to bond with family and of course for everyone. Family should’ve gathered again at least once in a year. The joy and smile drawn on everybody faces when they see and embrace each other is irreplaceable. No materials or money could ever compare to explain how grateful to had have family. Family is the most important thing for Filipino. I like how this traditional understanding still passes unto generation to generation.
Another thing about Christmas is of course the appurtenance of Santa Clause riding a sleigh and his gifts is a paradise for a little one’s innocent imagination. I won’t deny that my small self was victim of this Santa-clause-Christmas. Hey, unwrapping Christmas present was fun! Although, the moment you’d realized that present was from your mom and dad and not Santa, was horrifying and dismay.
For us Christians, Christmas is also time for remembering Jesus Christ and his birth. This is also the time to attend the mass and complete the nine simbang gabi. Some superstitious beliefs say that if you complete the simbang gabi, your wish for will be heared and granted.
Our celebration is not that huge as I had mention the important thing is to have family present on December 25. We just had a small handaan enough for the six of us, if my father is present at home and nanay aging is here to celebrate with us evry Christmas.
But things seem to get more interesting this past 2 or 3 years, everything had changed. I remembered tita nene, a closed kapitbahay of us, went home all the way from spain to had long vacation with her family, suggested to papa, why not celebrate Christmas with kapitbahays. On the following day, Tito rene, tita nene, mama, papa and ma’am cellia had official meeting to where or how it will be celebrated. They decided to prepare the décor in front of the house because our house is at the center of everybody’s. If ever it might rain the garage is open to put the handaan inside. We put dancing lights on each side, a decorated table and chairs, and bass music for a disco and a dancing ball to lighten up the mood. Games are also planned for the baggets and little ones to enjoy.
This celebration is not only for us neighborhood but also for everybody who wishes to join this happiness. Last year we just had a barbeque party theme. I don’t know this year and ahh I almost forgot my cousin from London will be home for Christmas and New Year with his pretty girlfriend. This year will be fun I guess. It will be for sure!
Everyone will be pretty occupied in December 25 that’s for sure!
